Don't Let The Kids Win (Polyvinyl)

Julia Jacklin is pleased to announce her ambitious debut album, Don’t Let The Kids Win, out October 7th on Polyvinyl. After presenting the video for her hypnotic debut single and album opener, “Pool Party,” Jacklin, “singing thoughtfully about the everyday experiences of heartache” (New York Times), now presents the bold yet intimate “Leadlight” and the single’s accompanying whimsical video, starring, written and directed by Jacklin herself.

“I filmed this music video in my old High school hall in the Blue Mountains,” says Jacklin.  “A lot of the shots focus on the stage where I performed in the chorus for ‘Grease’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and the unfortunate time I chose to sing ‘Wonderwall’ to a backing CD for a senior assembly. I went back there recently and saw the hall in a whole new light. When I was at school I never really thought about it, it was just a boring school hall that I was forced to sit in for long assemblies and exams. Now I think it’s actually a really beautiful space.”

Having garnered high praise after her performances at SXSW and more recently a string of sold out tour dates throughout Australia and Europe, the Australian-born singer/songwriter is poised to have a breakout year.

For the past serval years Jacklin has lived in a garage in Glebe (a suburb of Sydney), working a day job on a factory production line making essential oils, all the while finding time to hone her craft – to examine her turns of phrase, to observe the stretching of her friendship circles, to wonder who she was and who she might become. And now, as Jacklin quits her factory job to focus solely on a music career, the future she had once imagined is becoming her present day reality. “It feels really good to be getting closer to my first album release,” says Jacklin, “it has been a very long dream of mine.”
