Chicago’s Pet Symmetry present a new single, “Big Engagement,” via Storm Chasers LTD / Asian Man Records, and announce a North American tour. Pet Symmetry is the vivacious trio of Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It.), Marcus Nuccio (Ratboys), and Erik Czaja (Dowsing), who make gigantic, explosive power-pop anthems. Although each member is a recognized musician in the Chicago community (and beyond), Pet Symmetry started with the best and simplest of intentions: as an excuse to goof off. In 2013, they started kicking around ideas that were more lighthearted in nature than their full-time projects, and almost by accident, the result of their collective fun morphed into something real, and became Pet Symmetry.

Today’s new single, “Big Engagement,” follows two recently released tracks “Big Steve” and “Big Island,” a “a spurt of energy with crushed drinks and a sense of infinity” (Stereogum). Over an immediate deluge of guitar and drums, Weiss sings about the whirlwind of excitement and anxiety that comes with proposing and getting engaged. The lyrics are beautifully mundane: “Already settled in a way, under a weighted blanket // Morning coffee on our couch // I’ve got to talk to you right now ‘cause this anxiety is real // I’ve kept this secret from you for months but the time is now // I’ve gotta spit this out.”

In Weiss’ words, “anyone who has ever proposed to a partner knows the weight, nervousness and anxiety surrounding the ask. It’s one of the most beautiful experiences any adult can experience. An out of body moment. This was a song Pet Symmetry wrote after a beautiful day together in an altered state. It felt appropriate to connect it with another out of body experience: Proposing to my (now) wife.”

Pet Symmetry released their first beloved EP, Two Songs About Cars. Two Songs With Long Titles., in May 2013. Since then, have released three albums and five EPs. In 2017, they released their second album, Vision via Polyvinyl Records, which adopts the moodiness and heartfelt tones its creators are best known for. Their most recent release , Future Suits was released via the community-run record label Storm Chasers LTD. Future Suits was written to reflect a time of misery, confusion, and pain, yet still has a lively and upbeat attitude.
